CRISP WHITE SHIRT - LAGOS BIG BOY EDITION

The other day as I drove home from work I turned on the radio and caught a drive time show on the radio. I think I caught the tail end of the show where the girl was giving pointers on

How to be a Lagos big boy

She had a few hilarious points like ; you must drive an SUV, you must never have unsightly bulging pockets when you are out in public; in other words carry your phone, wallet, keys, DNA samples…….everything! in your hands. She had other points but the one that stuck out to me was

Your well starched crisp white must be paired with a clean stone wash light blue pair of jeans.

At first I was like “you gotta be kiddin….” But then I thought about it. There are loads of guys wandering about in crisp white shirts and stone wash blue jeans right? It’s really not that special, I can't guarantee that I would look twice.  I think it’s down to the wearer; how well do you carry a garment? There is something distinguished about a man in a crisp white shirt, rolled up sleeves with the first two buttons undone – think Idris Elba giving you some serious eye. (use your imagination)

I can’t explain it but I think it’s quite attractive for a man to be able to wear a crisp white shirt and wear it well! As you may already know, fashion financials loves a well dressed man and while the look the OAP described is not entirely how I would assess a Lagos big boy, we think there is something to be said for a man in a crisp white shirt.

Here are some pictures of some guys rocking the look!
First up is every Naija girl's favorite imaginary "baby daddy" Lynxxx ! He does the unbuttoned look well

Here is  Nominee for brother in law of the year Jay Z in his own laid back version

Ryan Gosling, I have to say I was not his biggest fan but ever since the shirtless scenes in crazy stupid love........where he showed off his I can lick ice cream off his body  nice arms....let's just say I am now convinced

Oldie but a goodie George Clooney always looks dapper. He hardly buttons up his shirt all the way even sometimes on red carpets

Tom Ford...this man may be Gay but anytime I see him in a white shirt especially with the sleeves rolled in one of those his picturesque signature poses, I am done! I just have to be excused

Brad Pitt looks good in it as well

And finally, the man who has featured in many women's dreams Idris Elba

What are you reading?

I am a big fan of magazines and for the last few months I have been collecting them. I always said I would do a round up on what was on the fashion and lifestyle newsstands every month but I just never got around to it. People do tend to pinch my magazines at work so I didn't get a chance to take my own pictures of them.
I do read other publications which are not fashion and lifestyle but this post is mainly about the most widely read fashion and lifestyle books on the market.

Here they are! please enjoy

Let's start with the latest issue of Hello! Nigeria with Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (1991) Nike Osinowo and her beautiful Twins. She goes into detail about the circumstances surrounding the decision to have twins via surrogate in the United States. Cover was shot by Kelechi Amadi Obi and I must say; it was an interesting read

The latest Complete Fashion has RnB singer and 2008 finalist from MTN project fame Praiz and reigning Most Beautiful girl in Nigeria Anna Banner. Covers were shot by Moussa Moussa

The latest Genevieve Magazine has Billionaire oil tycoon Femi Otedola and his pretty daughter DJ Cuppy on the cover. This must have been a giant coup for Betty Irabor and the folks over at Geneveive because getting a businessman like Femi on the cover of a "fashion & lifestyle" magazine can't have been easy. The cover was shot by Yetunde Baba Eko.

Next up is Mania magazine. Incase you didn't know, Mania is published by renowned photographer Kelechi Amadi Obi so naturally the images and pictorials in the magazines will always be near perfect if not perfect. Their may issue which they dubbed the "Power Issue" features Ngozi Edozien the CEO of an investment company called Invivo partners Ltd. The magazine also features Ace comedian Ali Baba as well as their ever colorful beauty pages which I always look forward to.

Total Woman's latest issue features the lead actors from critically acclaimed novel turned movie "Half of a yellow sun" Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton.

Pride Magazine finally made it's debut! This premiere issue has been in the works for-ever and I do mean forever (on the DL ofcorse) but I am just so happy it finally came out. Omawumi graced the first cover and speaks candidly about her life, career, daughter and her decision not to reveal the father of her daughter. The issue packs a punch with it's Pride man section, a resounding tribute to Nelson Mandela and several other pictorials.

OK Nigeria features Music star Tuface Idibia on the cover. In the issue, he discusses his new life with his wife, actress Annie Macaulay Idibia, he discusses what it's like to have a new born in the house and his preference for dark skinned women.

That's it for now. I will update this post if I've left anything out. Thanks for reading. X

GREAT NEWS!! PREGNANCY CHIC!

I just received some great news! One of my absolute nearest and dearest friends is expecting!!!

I was so happy because I must say, I have been suspecting her for a while but I dare not put pressure on her by asking each time I had a hunch, I couldn't live with myself if I made her feel unnecessary disappointment. Congratulations my love and I wish you a blissful, stress free, amazing, fashionable pregnancy!

side note: this is to my darling mom to be: please do not wear dangerous heels if you cant handle them, I know your hubby will not be smiling at me much if you as much as trip a teeny bit!

So, in honor of this long time friend of mine and her bun in the oven, I thought i'd do a pregnancy fashion post. A lot of my favorite fashionistas have been preggers in the past and their fashion choices during the time have been really inspiring. Please note that I recognize that a typical Nigerian woman who has to work, cook, clean and service "oga" even during pregnancy cannot look like this at all times. These are just great sources of inspiration that show that you don't have to hide in baggy clothes and boring designs while carrying your precious jewel, please enjoy!

One of the most iconic moments for this mother of four was when she attended Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in one of her own creations, in 6+' heels! I absolutely adored how daring she was and those heels....you must have guts of steel to rock those while pregnant and David probably had his heart in his mouth the entire time, even though he hides it well! lol

Victoria looking casual chic in an empire waist baby doll dress with leather detail

Black to basics -  here she is again in an all black ensemble. Victoria who has confessed that she can never concentrate in flat shoes has never been spotted wearing anything but heels!

Newly wed Mrs Kanye and mother of one had every inch of her pregnancy played out before us and even though she had a few misses (who doesn't) she had a few inspiring looks during the period

I love how easy-breezy-chic this chiffon and blazer number is. It looks very comfortable and the colors are so subtle and calm

I am  fan of this especially with the gold necklace. Simple, chic and comfortable.

Here she is again in a fitted leather skirt and white sleeveless top. I like the stole; adds a bit of glamour to an otherwise casual get up.

Here is Kim around the beginning of her pregnancy still rocking a white fitted pencil skirt, but truth be told, Kim never shied away from fitted clothes during the entire time

Unless you are one with guts of steel, don't try this at home. you can almost see North's features in this ultra tight gown..just kidding

Kim posted a picture of her and Kanye with the caption" date night with my heart". This made me go aaaw because I love when couples still go out on dates. I know people who have been married barely a few minutes and they don't even go out on dates, that saddens me a little

Halle Berry embodied easy-casual-chic during her pregnancy, she was often spotted in comfy stretchy dresses. I like her figure hugging pastel dress while she was on the run with her little girl, but like I said unless you are Halle berry or have a great bod or have an industrial strength body magic(but why would you wanna be uncomfortable during this awesome time?!), don't wear skin tight dresses

Love the jungle inspired neck piece

K A T E   W I N S L E T

Academy award winner and mother of three looks chic in this all black ensemble. Black is slimming creating a more svelte silhouette

Without a doubt, this was one of the most followed pregnancies on the planet for the obvious reason that she was carrying the future king of England. However, the duchess of Cambridge's fashion sense during this period was also under scrutiny and stylish she stayed throughout.

Here she is in a blue empire waist gown. Empire waists are flattering on every pregnant woman, it accentuates the bust and falls nicely on the baby bump

Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman also looks lovely in this empire waist ethereal gown.

Actress Jena Dewan Tatum looks great in this maxi dress and dressed it up with her denim jacket. Denim jackets always add a little something to an otherwise blah outfit!
