ALEXANDER MCQUEEN LIVES ON!

Today is the fourth year anniversary of visionary designer (lee) Alexander McQueen’s death. The brilliant designer began his career at the early age of 16 as an apprentice on Saville Row. He gained notoriety as an expert in creating an impeccably tailored look.

He continued to hone his skills and after working for several designers, he enrolled at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design where he received a master’s degree in fashion design.

He was born Lee Alexander McQueen but when influential stylist Isabella blow  met him, she convinced him to use his middle name which is why he is now referred to as Alexander McQueen.

He designed costumes for celebrities such as David Bowie and had worked with Icelandic singer Bjork on her album art.

McQueen succeeded John Galliano as head designer of Givenchy from 1996 to 2001. He became notorious for his shock value on the runways and was even referred to as “the hooligan of English fashion” and “L’Enfant terrible” which means terrible child!

He went on to start his own fashion label after his time with Givenchy expired. By 2007, he had boutiques in all the major cities in America and Europe with an enviable celebrity clientele; from Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Rihanna and Lady gaga!

In the afternoon of February 11th 2010, his housekeeper discovered his lifeless body hanging at his home in London. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The troubled designer passed away nine days after his mother died of cancer.

McQueen’s legacy continues to live on through his fashion label which is now under the creative direction of his long term assistant Sarah Burton.
