DAY 2 LFDW!
Today was the second day in the four day schedule of the GTB
sponsored Lagos fashion and design week. It was a much calmer feeling today,
the weather was cool and people were much more excited to get into the swing of
things! Plus, there were menswear designers on the line up and I love menswear, probably a bit more than women's wear.
Now, on to the shenanigans and tantrums! Did you know that in this Lagos, a model can actually decide
not to touch or model for a designer if he or she chooses?
Allow me to explain; as I was getting over being picked up
unceremoniously by my fellow photog, I turned around and found a few models
chatting animatedly. I made eye contact with one of them who I’ve known from
previous fashion shows and he waved me over. Turns out that one of the male
models was PPPissed at a designer for giving his look (that’s the outfit they
had both agreed he would walk down the runway in) to another model who
according to him “can’t even walk as good as I can”.
So, me obviously with my
kumbaya let’s all be friends church mind said “common I’m sure you can work
something out.
He looked me dead in the eye and said “once you do that to
me, I wash my hands off you” he went on
to explain in detail how he had his pride and how he will never walk for him
again. He schooled me big time mehn!
I walked away thinking wahala
dey o, why not just wear another outfit? Is it really that serious?
Long story short, the said designer’s clothes came down the
runway during the show and I was thinking, eh yah so ****** won’t be in this line up and just
as I look through my view finder, guess who it is walking down the runway!?
The said model who swore with all the seven hells that he
will “never touch his clothes again”
Tantrums and shenanigans, it never ends and that’s just one
of the many craziness that happens back stage before all the glitz and glamour
comes trickling down the runway!
I was expecting slight delays because the show started a bit
late on day 1 so I made the erroneous mistake
(Yes…..Tautology…it’s that serious) of going out of the marquee for a small
stroll and missed quite a bit of The winners of Fayrouz Original competition - T E A M
E L A N
The show opened with MI-LE followed by DZYN, with very clean cuts and bold stripes. They were followed by menswear designers MCEMEKA and KENNETH IZE and then WASHINGTON ROBERTS, GREY, SUNNY ROSE AND finally, crowd favorite, M A K I O H.
As I said, the show started a bit earlier and ended in
record time (9:10pm) despite the power outage. In the middle of the show, something went
“pop” and there was a bit of light smoke but not enough to cause a stampede.
Everyone sat patiently and waited for them to restore power into the marquee.
Since I am not a “sit down and enjoy the show” type of
person, I gave my ticket to a friend who was a fashion show newbie! I set my photographer
buddies on her and she kept trying to run away! That was funny to see. She was forming shy….yes you! (if you’re reading) Tell me you didn’t like it
Anyway, please enjoy the images!
